Terramesh for Slope Soil Reinforcement
Terramesh® System is a modular system used for soil reinforcement applications such as mechanically stabilized earth walls and slopes. Units are placed at horizontal layers during the filling and compaction of the structural embankment. The vertical spacing between reinforcements is determined by the design in order to provide the required shear strength for the soil embankment.
It is made of a continuous double twisted wire mesh panel that forms the reinforcement, and the front and top of a gabion style facing section. The back panel, ends, and diaphragm of the facing section are connected to the main unit during the manufacturing process. The facing section is a rectangular form filled with stone which provides strength and drainage to the structure. Terramesh® System is fabricated from heavily galvanized wire conforming to BS443 Standards and coated with Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC).
Terramesh® System structures have unique characteristics:
Permeable. Using stone fill permits a free draining system, which reduces potential hydraulic pressure effects.
Structurally sound. The wire mesh reinforcement is continuous along the reinforcement plane, the sloped facing and the top return section. This eliminates the risk of connection failures between the reinforcement and the facing section.
Cost effective. Terramesh® System structures can be built with soil fill and rock available on-site, if adequate, requiring minimal imported material. The modularity of the unit makes the construction time cost effective.
Environmentally friendly. Terramesh® System structures can be naturally integrated with the surrounding environment by use of various bio-engineering techniques. The filtering capability of the rock fill, allows the soil, water, air, and plant life to interact naturally.
